More Goofy Juice Please

Lil B Ear Surgery Pre-OpToday was loooong. Lil B had surgery today to remove the tympanostomy tube and cholesteatoma from his left ear.

To me, the day began last night when I was unable to rest at all and had a round of experiences trying to also keep me from doing so.

Then...the alarm at 5am, waking the family and getting ready to leave by 6:15 ((which we did)).

The rest is a blur. We checked in. Looked momentarily at the huge aquarium. Were called back. They introduced themselves. Took his vitals. The longest time was the wait between the vitals and the goofy juice.

Ahhh the goofy juice. A tiny syringe of murky fluid and 10 minutes later, my baby was trippin'.
Lil B Ear Surgery Pre-Op Goofy JuiceI tried to capture the look of him studying his hand in that hippie, acid trip, look at the tracers kinda way, but I was working w/ a camera phone and it just has limitations.

It was so funny. The only constant in his world at that moment were his Daddy's arms around him, which as the meds set in, he griped tighter and tighter. About the time that he told me I had 2 heads and then giggled looking at his brother, but slurred so much we were unable to understand when he described what he saw.

The purpose is to relax the child before going to surgery and to make the separation from Mom and Dad easier ((they need to offer it to Mommies too in my opinion)). From goofy juice to them taking him to surgery and the wait for them to come for us, is truly a blur.

Big B did his schoolwork in the waiting room and it seems like he had just started it when the nurse entered and called for us.

He had just come out of the anesthetic when we went in and he just droopy eyed us all and smiled. Happy to have it all done, I'm sure.

We sat w/ him while he gulped apple juice and ate a popsicle. Then...we were on our way home. We walked in the door at 6 30 and walked out at 9 10.

Unbelievable.

He is doing really well. Pain meds, Tylenol, some slight bleeding and fever - but he is great.

It's 8pm, I'm going to B E D.

Laane- Yeah, I am taking part in the strike. The new EC thing is ridiculous.

Sassy- I'll update my links.

Nikki- He really is. They said he would have some bleeding and a fever for awhile, but after that first day he has not.

Hana Mi- Thank You, yes it was tough. I didn't cry until the Dr came out and said the surgery went well. Funny how that is huh, all is well and that's when you know it's ok to breakdown.

Did li'l cupcake have ear issues too? This was his 3rd surgery. 2 to put the tubes in, the 2nd was also to remove his adenoid and then this 3rd to take the tube out.

Hopefully we're done.
