Yeah Yeah I know, shocking huh. Me wrong? Never you say.
Indeed I was. I expected a certain end to the evening - and I was wrong.
I thought a call for bedtime would bring squeals of foul play and "aw Mommmmm".
Nothing of the sort. Lil B went w/out argument to put his pj's on and brushed his teeth. *puzzled Mom face* HUH?!?
Big B on the other hand surprised me another way. He walked into the room w/ the following announcement;
"Mom I don't want to worry you or be gross but I need to talk to you about something."
((This is where, as a parent, you brace yourself and pray for the ability to deal w/ and answer for whatever is coming next))
"Was I circumcised?"
*puzzled Mom face* Huh? Oh wait I do know the answer here. "Yes you were when you were 2 days old."
((Notice the lack of a why there? I was just answering and seeing where the questions went.))
"Because I have lots and lots of skin there. Will I have to be circumcised again when I grow up?"
"No honey that's ok." ((Whew))
We then covered the reason some circumcise and what it is like for those who do not.
Then he hit me w/ the girl stuff.
"Do girls get circumcised?"
"No"
"Why not?"
He thought that girls have flaps of skin covering the hole down there.
There was a slight hesitation before going through w/ the honest answer he deserved.
And after hearing that we do have skin the covers the vagina, but it is not like a flap necessarily, he was good to go. Enough info w/out being too much.
((Whew)) That was unexpected.

But there is something called a female circumcision... But it is for a very different reason. Wikipedia can describe it best, I think...
But you did right. If they are old enough to ask, they are old enough to know the truth.
Marf- I have always given the boys honest, up front answers.
Some have been easier to give than others. Explaining ejaculation was THE most difficult conversation I have ever had in my life.
But we made it through.
And yes, I thought of the clitoral mutilations too.
I wasn't going to bring it up and wondered if the circumcision would stir up something in itself on the blog.
WOW! NO matter how old you get I still get that giggly feeling inside when those questions are asked. I have always answered my kids with the honest answer too but it just amazes me that they are grown up enough to ask those questions. You did well!
